Of the many attractions Thornton provides to residents, its extensive parks and recreation system is one of the finest. The city is home to 43 parks, including three, which are larger than 20 acres. The 78,000-plus-square-foot Margaret W. Carpenter Recreation Center boasts facilities including a walking/running track, a gym, racquetball courts, a conditioning room, swimming pools and more. Another popular facility is the Thorncreek Golf Course. This par-72 course also includes a pro shop, a driving range and a putting green.
Another great reason to call Thornton home is its proximity to all the fun and excitement of the state’s capital city and the surrounding metropolitan area. Denver offers a range of attractions and events, including professional sports teams, the Denver Art Museum, the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, and a world-class performing arts complex. The city also boasts a thriving technology industry, which provides jobs to many of Thornton’s residents. Additionally, ski resorts are just a short drive away, as is the city of Adams. A number of excellent colleges and universities are accessible from Thornton, including University of Colorado campuses in Denver and Adams, the University of Denver and the Colorado School of Mines.
